Abstract

We conducted a prospective study of determine the efficacy and safety of recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) after second course of EAP (etoposide, adriamycin, cisplatin) chemotherapy in 8 patients with advanced gastric cancer and after second course of ACNU+UFT chemotherapy in 2 patients with advanced colorectal carcinoma.
Treatment with G-CSF (2 ?/kg/day) accelerated the recovery of neutrophils and leukocyte significantly. The lowest neutrophil count during treatment with G-CSF were significantly higher than control cycles (1645¡¾242/mm3. v.s. 750¡¾184/mm3). There were on difference in lymphocyte, moncyte and platelet counts between no difference in lymphocyte. monocyte and platelet counts between control cycle and the cycle treated with G-CSF. The ability of the growth factor to reduce severe neutropenia suggests it will have an important role in the management of solid gastrointestinal cancers.
